Premature babies are routinely fed formula to supplement their diet or even as their primary source of nutrition.
Certain cow's-milk based formulas were specifically created and are used for premature babies. However, some of these specific baby formulas may be linked to an increased risk of a premature baby developing NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis); a serious medical condition which causes intestinal tissue to die and may lead to other serious health problems.
